Description of internship position:

Students will be assigned to work with either the outpatient Internal Medicine Recovery Program or the Inpatient Addiction Consult Team (IACT). Students will be placed based on the interview process, with consideration for student preference, and ultimately ARC clinician recommendation. Students will have the opportunity to shadow interdisciplinary teams while assisting with assessment and screening tool administration, data entry, and other tasks as needed. During this internship you will learn about the overlap of infectious disease, substance use treatment, and mental health.

Learning outcomes:

In this internship, students will have the opportunity to see an interdisciplinary approach to addiction and substance use treatment. Students will learn about motivational interviewing, the screening, brief intervention, referral to treatment (SBIRT) model, and the biopsychosocial interventions offered to patients recovery from substance use disorders. This internship would be a great opportunity for students who are interested in direct patient interaction.
