Department: Emergency Management – Midlands (Non-Clinical)

  • Preferred hours: Varies, 8a-5p

Preferred degree program:

  • Students currently enrolled in: Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree program
  • With a concentration or focus in: Emergency Management, Public Administration, Healthcare Administration

Description of internship position:

Our Mission: Create and promote a progressive state of readiness for any austere event that could impact the Prisma Health System, or communities in which they serve.

This departments purpose is to prepare, mitigate, respond and recover departments and personnel of Prisma Health from naturally occurring and/or man-made disasters; To produce individuals that are knowledgeable and capable of maintaining healthcare operations during austere events; To develop practitioners of emergency management in the healthcare field that promote preparedness and response initiatives during austere events; To participate in the development and execution of an approved project.

Learning outcomes:

The intern will be responsible for the revision or creation of an emergency preparedness plan and checklist. The intern will be responsible for the creation, overall oversight and after event activities associated with an emergency drill/exercise. The intern will help coordinate and manage an approved project undertaken by the emergency management department. Interns will be able to produce an emergency preparedness plan in coordination with emergency management staff. The intern will be able to conduct a successful exercise or drill that will promote preparedness, response or recovery in an austere event. The intern will have a successful project outcome.
